The Jockey Club

Advancing Sustainability through Voltage Optimisation

Demonstrating a strong commitment to environmental stewardship, The Jockey Club has set an ambitious goal to become carbon neutral by 2027 and is actively implementing strategies to significantly reduce carbon emissions.

Background

The Jockey Club stands as the largest commercial horse racing organisation in the United Kingdom, owning 15 of Britain’s most renowned racecourses, including Aintree, Cheltenham, Epsom Downs, and both the Rowley Mile and July Course in Newmarket.

Challenge:

Managing a diverse portfolio of racecourses and facilities, The Jockey Club faced the challenge of reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions across its extensive estate. Achieving this required a solution that could enhance energy efficiency without disrupting daily operations or compromising the quality of services provided to patrons and stakeholders.

Solutions:

To support their sustainability objectives, The Jockey Club partnered with Powerhub Solutions to implement Voltage Optimisation (VO) technology across multiple sites nationwide. This technology reduces mains voltage to optimal levels, thereby decreasing energy consumption and enhancing the efficiency of electrical equipment. Specifically, the initiative involved the installation of 30 VO units across 13 sites.

Results:

The deployment of Voltage Optimisation technology resulted in substantial benefits:

  • Annual Energy Savings:
The 30 VO units collectively achieved annual savings of 571,590 kWh across the sites.
  • Carbon Emission Reduction:
These energy savings corresponded to an annual reduction of 118,361.43 kg in carbon emissions, significantly contributing to The Jockey Club’s sustainability goals.
  • Return on Investment (ROI):
The project achieved a ROI within 26 months, underscoring the financial viability of the energy efficiency measures implemented.

Conclusion:

Through its collaboration with Powerhub Solutions, The Jockey Club successfully enhanced the energy efficiency of its operations, aligning with its commitment to environmental sustainability. The implementation of Voltage Optimisation technology not only resulted in significant energy and cost savings but also played a crucial role in reducing the organisation’s carbon footprint. This case exemplifies how targeted energy efficiency initiatives can drive both environmental and economic benefits in the pursuit of corporate sustainability goals.
