The hotel has long been known for its classic charm and warm guest experience, but like many hospitality venues, energy efficiency was becoming a growing area of focus.

The Challenge:

Running a 24/7 hospitality operation means constant energy demand, from cellar cooling and kitchen extraction to refrigeration and drink systems. These are essential for smooth service but are also some of the biggest energy consumers in hotels, restaurants, and pubs.

The RedCat Group has been proactive in addressing this challenge across its portfolio, identifying opportunities to make sites like The Admiral Rodney Hotel more energy-efficient, more sustainable, and more cost-effective, without impacting operations or guest experience.

Our Solution

To support this goal, Powerhub Solutions worked closely with the team at The Admiral Rodney Hotel to install a suite of smart energy-saving tools, each designed to reduce wasted energy, cut carbon, and improve asset performance.

Installed technologies included:

  • WiFF Manager: Optimises kitchen ventilation systems, ensuring extraction only runs when needed.
  • Smart Post Mix Timer: Powers down drink systems during idle hours to prevent unnecessary energy draw.
  • Remote Optimiser: Enables live energy monitoring and remote control for high-consumption assets.
  • Bottle Fridge Manager: Manages fridge cycles intelligently, maintaining cooling efficiency while reducing kWh use.
  • Cellar Manager: Optimises cellar cooling systems to maintain perfect serving temperatures using less energy.

Hospitality sites like The Admiral Rodney Hotel present a particular challenge for energy management. Unlike a typical commercial premises with predictable opening hours, a working hotel runs around the clock, with kitchen extraction, cellar cooling and refrigeration all needing to operate reliably regardless of occupancy or time of day. This makes blanket energy reduction difficult, since systems cannot simply be switched off outside peak hours without risking food safety, drink quality or guest comfort.

Powerhub’s approach was to target the specific behaviour of each system rather than apply a single solution across the site. The WiFF Manager, for example, only allows kitchen extraction to run at the rate the kitchen actually needs, rather than running at full capacity throughout service. The Smart Post Mix Timer takes a similar approach with drink systems, recognising periods of genuine idle time and reducing draw accordingly without affecting service speed when the bar reopens.

Each system was selected to target a specific area of energy waste, together delivering a comprehensive optimisation of the hotel’s operations.

The installation was completed efficiently and with no disruption to guests or staff, a key part of Powerhub Solution’s promise.
